Bruce qualified as a chartered accountant in 1991 and as a Chartered Financial Analyst in 2002. He completed his articles at Deloitte in 1994 following which he did some part-time financial work while traveling for two years. In 1996 he joined the corporate finance and leveraged buy-out teams of Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank in Johannesburg. In 1998 he relocated to Durban where he joined the Private Equity team of BoE Bank.
In 2004 Bruce started Collins Private Equity, in partnership with the Collins Property Group, with a focus on making small to medium sized non-property equity investments. To date the company has invested over R200 million in ten transactions in various industries and has also completed eight portfolio acquisitions within its investee companies. Bruce is a shareholder in, and the Managing Director of, Collins Private Equity and has also served as interim Managing Director of a number of investee companies. Bruce has been a director of a number of unlisted companies and has served as an alternate director on the board of the JSE listed company Glenrand MIB. He currently sits on the boards of Eveready and Nordland (where he acts as Chairman).
